A mother’s confession: it’s never too late to protect your kids from online threats

I was all proud of myself – having a high-paying job, an excellent husband, a smart ten year old girl. My friends call me Super Lily, they even envy me that I have got success both on my career and family. Especially my little honey Sara, she is quite a cute girl. All this brings me a great sense of achievement. But maybe this is just what I was supposed.

I was being told the serious thread to kids form Internet nowadays before I bought a Mac for Sara as to help my little girl learn some new things on the internet., however, I ignored this piece of advice. For one thing, I believe my little girl, for another, busy work took all my time so that I had no free time to monitor her online activities. So I just set up the laptop with a separate limited account for her and the home page was a kids National Geographic site. I literally thought I had set up a controlled atmosphere and she was all happy  and learning things.

Several days later, my husband told me he found there was something unusual for our daughter. She always spent hours online in her room, and when he got  in ,she would close the websites immediately. I though my husband was too paranoid. She was just about 10, maybe it was happened  of what you saw. But this situation was beyond my imagination. One ordinary day, no sooner had I got home than I was pulled to the bed room by my husband. He was so serious that I had never seen before.” Here are some crap things that really make me disgusted. It’ s our beloved daughter” He opened a file, it listed the sites that Sara always browse, and the conversation with her friends.” Well, the first two sites were 3D chat worlds,and she had made a horrible user ID, it actually contained the words sex. I was already sick to my stomach. When I clicked on the last site, my stomach turned when I saw the heading something about a mom having sex with her son and the f words was there. It was a video that automatically played. There were all kinds of pop up horrible sex thing on the right. I was totally grossed out even for the few seconds I saw . ”I installed a key logger on Sara’ s Mac since I told you I was aware of her unusual last time. I even couldn’ t believe my eyes. Our daughter had just watched sex in the most disgusting of levels.” I closed the websites trying to hole in my tears welling up in my eyes.

I realized that it was my fault. I didn’ t pay much attention on my daughter, I was so selfish and I was hardly being defined as a good mother. After consulted to experts, I was got to know that I must do something for her now. Now I  go home early everyday for I need more time with my kid. I talk to her, orient her, when she studies in the Internet, I will sit by her side,  and make her a sense of good or bad things. Apart from this, I set parental control software on her Mac. With the help of  Mac parental control software, I can know clearly what she doing online when I’ m not there.

Kids always curious for sexually-explicit content and they may chat with bad guys, Sara is a normal girl within a normal curiosity as well. At this circumstance, the role of parents is vital. Only blame will do nothing but a negative effect.  It’ s never too late for parents to protect your kids from online threats,withing your love, patient and wisdom.
